Piccolo Rustico is situated close to Alba in the gently rolling hills of the Langhe region of Piemonte in the northwest corner of Italy between the Alps and The Italian Riviera, (Liguria) and situated south of Torino (Turin) and the River Po.

Piemonte local areaIt is an area perfect to explore the important towns of Barbaresco, Barolo , Alba , Asti, Acqui Terme and the many charming villages nearby. For those seeking a more active holiday there is cycling , walking and trekking where you can be immersed in the wonderful nature and countryside of the area. The vibrant cities of Turin, Milan and Genoa are all close by.

Nestling at the foothills of the Ligurian Apennines this area provides great access to French, Italian, and Swiss ski resorts and is less than an hour and half from the Italian Riviera.

The landscape is famous for its gently rolling hills, medieval hilltop villages, prestigious vineyards and wines, hazelnuts and fruit orchards and is infact a photographers heaven.

Piemonte is unspoiled by tourism and really has  something to offer everyone, be it history, cuisine, wines, architecture, skiing, or the attractive beaches of the Italian Riviera. The area is virtually undiscovered and is known as  Italy’s “little secret”.

The weather is Mediterranean and mild with the Ligurian Riviera being close by. Winters are very short, autumn and spring long and warm with the summer months dry and hot with the hilltops pleasantly ventilated by the healthy sea air.

The local people  – the Piemontese are friendly, open, welcoming people  and very hardworking having worked the land and grown wine for many many years.

Delights to sample include the white truffle known as “tartufo” which are indeed world-renowned. In October and November the white truffle can be sampled in almost all restaurants and trattoria especially in the charming medieval city of Alba.

Nearby towns of interest and importance include Alba, Barolo, Barbaresco,  Acqui Terme, Asti, Cortemilia, Ceva and Mondovi, not to mention the many equally charming smaller villages and towns in the surrounding area.

Local specialties include: carne cruda, vitello tonnato, risotto alla Piemontese, bagna cauda, fonduta con tartufi, the list is endless. The region is also famous for hazelnuts and we recommend you try the local hazelnut cake "torta di nocciole"
